Gymnastics third at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Ursinus College women's gymnastics team will make a return trip to the NCGA Championships, as the Bears finished third at the 2014 ECAC Championships with a score of 185.875.

In addition to the team honor, freshman Vanessa Scalora was named as the ECAC Rookie of the Year. Individually, senior Monica Durham won the bars with a score of 9.625. Durham also finished second in the all-around competition with a score of 37.625.

Scalora finished with a score of 9.575 on the bars, a 9.150 on the vault, a 9.100 on the floor and an 8.950 on the beam for a total all-around score of 36.775.

As a team, Ursinus finished with a 46.650 on the floor, a 46.550 on the vault, a 46.400 on the beam and a 46.275 on the bars.

Staying on the floor, sophomore Kristina Steffenhagan was the top finisher for the Bears with a 9.550, which was tied for fourth overall. Junior Riley Acton got a 9.500, while Durham had a 9.350. Senior Megan Bolash had a 9.150 with Scalora getting a 9.100.

On the vault, junior Kristin Aichele had a 9.550, while Durham had a 9.400. Steffenhagan had a 9.275, with Acton going 9.175. Scalora and Bolash both had a 9.150.

On the beam, Steffenhagan had a 9.625 good enough for third place overall. Aichele, who took fifth,  had a 9.575, followed by Durham with a 9.250. Freshman Allyson Getty got a 9.00 with freshman Lauren Chavis and Scalora tying for an 8.950.

On the bars, following Durham's high score, Scalora had a 9.575 which was third overall. Chavis got a 9.275, with Acton getting an 8.975 and junior Tianna Lettieri getting a 8.825.

The NCGA Championships will be held in two weeks at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, N.Y.
