Michael Childs is in his first season as an assistant coach on the Ursinus wrestling staff. A former Division I wrestler at Drexel, Childs brings well over a decade of coaching experience to the mats in Collegeville.

Childs comes to Ursinus following a four-year stint as an assistant at Franklin & Marshall, which followed two years as an assistant at Davidson.

Childs was a four-year varsity wrestler at Drexel, where he competed for his father, Jack Childs, who coached the Dragons for 35 seasons. After graduating in 2003, he began his coaching career in the high-school ranks, serving as a head coach for six years and as an assistant for two more at several schools in Pennsylvania. He spent the 2008-09 season as a volunteer assistant for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club at Penn State, also working as an academic tutor and student-athlete mentor.

Childs also brings international experience, having spent a year as the head wrestling coach at The Grip House, a Mixed Martial Arts / Muay Thai training facility in Glasgow, Scotland. In that role, he oversaw day-to-day operations of the gym and trained professional fighters from the United Kingdom and throughout Europe.

A meber of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Childs is working towards his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) accreditation. He is a graduate of the National Wrestling Coaches Association's (NWCA) Leadership Academy, and is also an active participant in triathlons and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
