Bears Take on Loaded Field at DII/DIII Challenge

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College cross country teams took on a host of nationally ranked programs and a challenging course to boot at Saturday's Division II/III Challenge hosted on Kutztown University's North Campus.

Junior Joseph Iuliucci led the pack for the Bears' men, who placed 13th in a field of 19. Iuliucci turned in a time of 27:47.00 to finish 55th overall and pace the Ursinus contingent for the second straight meet.

Iuliucci was followed by a host of freshmen. Craig Lauer was the second Bear across the line for the second consecutive meet, recording a clocking of 28:21.20. James MacDaid (29:01.0) and Logan Mazzullo (29:05.90) were neck and neck behind Lauer, and John Haase (29:35.80) rounded out the Ursinus top five.

Sophomores Andrew Voyack (29:37.40) and Jonathan Cope (29:51.60) also competed.

Sophomore Riley Engel was first across the finish line for the Ursinus women, who placed 17th out of 20 teams. Engel's mark of 25:34.20 was good for 77th overall.

Sophomore Gabrielle Manto (26:47.10) was next for the Bears, followed by freshman Alyson Manley (27:06.20) and seniors Samantha Innes (28:05.30) and Alicia Baker (28:23.20).

The cross country teams are next in action at Lehigh University's Paul Short Run on Saturday, October 1.
