CAMDEN, N.J. – The Ursinus College volleyball team picked up its second consecutive sweep – and third of the young season – with a 3-0 victory at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday night.

Junior Kelly Piotrowicz fell just shy of a triple-double for the Bears (3-2), producing eight kills to complement 12 digs and 12 assists in a 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 triumph. The result continued a bizarre trend in the teams' recent history – oddly enough, the programs have faced off in each of the past five seasons and the road side has swept each meeting.

After matching kills and errors in the opening set, Ursinus gradually found its rhythm on attack and hit .111 in the second set and a strong .190 in the third.

Junior Miranda Foster led the Bears with nine kills and sophomore Paige DeAlba turned in a solid all-around effort with 12 assists, seven kills, and six digs.

Sophomore Grace Sullivan was one of three Ursinus players to record double-digit digs, tallying a team-best 14 to join Piotrowicz and freshman Olivia DeBonte (10). Senior Sydney Gonzalez finished with nine.

The Bears dropped the first point of the match but caught fire from there, taking advantage of three DeBonte aces and a string of Scarlet Raptors errors to seize an early 11-3 advantage. Rutgers-Camden would close to within 23-21, but Piotrowicz restored order with a kill and combined with Foster on a set-clinching block.  

The early portion of the second set featured several lead changes until Ursinus wrested command away from the home side and took a 13-6 lead on DeAlba's ace. The Scarlet Raptors made it interesting at 19-16 before Piotrowicz and Foster sandwiched kills around another DeAlba ace, and Piotrowicz set up Foster for a kill to lock down the second frame.

Unlike the first two sets, it was Rutgers-Camden to start fast in the third, going ahead 10-6 before a 5-0 run by the Bears. DeAlba started the surge with a kill, and a Scarlet Raptors error handed Ursinus the lead. Harris and DeAlba swatted kills on back-to-back kills preceding another error to make it 20-16 Bears, but the hosts reeled off four in a row to get within 21-20. Piotrowicz again came up with a clutch kill in a 4-0 closing run for Ursinus.

The Bears head to Rowan for the Profs Invitational, which pits them against Widener and Curry on Friday.
