COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team fell 3-0 at home versus Haverford on Wednesday. The Fords took the match by winning the first three sets 25-16, 25-17, and 25-13.

The Bears broke a 6-6 tie in the first set by taking a 9-7 lead, but the Fords stormed past with a 7-0 run. Ursinus gained three back to make it a two-point game once again before a four-point stretch padded the Haverford lead. The Bears continued to chip away, but were unable to come from behind in the first set.

Ursinus burst out of the gates in the second set. The Bears scored twice to open the set and quickly built a commanding 9-3 lead. Haverford refused to go down, however, gaining a two-point advantage after a 9-1 run that forced an Ursinus timeout.

The two sides swapped points with the Bears keeping it within two. Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to limit the Haverford streaks. A five-point stretch gave Haverford a 23-16 lead and the Fords did not look back, winning the set and taking the match with a win in the third.

Junior Allison Raff had a big night for the Bears, leading Ursinus with 13 points. The outside hitter finished with a team-high 13 kills and added seven digs. Freshman Kelly Piotrowicz led all Bears with 15 assists and sophomore Sydney Gonzalez tallied 17 digs.

Ursinus is now 8-8, 1-5 on the season. The Bears return to the court on Saturday, October 8th with a Senior Day match against Johns Hopkins at noon; they will also take on Manhattanville at 4 p.m.
