Volleyball opens up 2015 slate at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team opened its 2015 slate on Friday at the first day of the 13th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational with a pair of matches.

The Bears dropped their opener to Eastern 3-0 (set scores 25-12, 25-17, 25-8) and Carroll (Wis.) 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-15).

In the Eastern match, senior outside hitter Karla Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins Senior) had ten kills, while freshman outside hitter Megan Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) added in two. Freshman setter Cori Cichowicz (King of Prussia, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame De Namur) had nine assists. Freshman libero Sydney Gonzalez (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had nine digs, with Thiele adding in eight.

Against Carroll, sophomore outside hitter Allison Raff (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) had six kills, with Thiele getting four. Cichowicz had ten assists, with Raff adding in six digs.

Ursinus will take on Marywood and Alvernia tomorrow in the second day of the Invitational.
