Pomatto Wins Discus Gold for Women's T&F on Day Two of Centennial Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – First-year Mikki Pomatto earned a gold medal in the Discus Throw as the Ursinus Women's Track & Field team completed a solid day on a rainy second day of the 2022 Centennial Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Patterson Field on Saturday.

 

 

The Bears remained in second place in the team standings after day two on their current total of 52 points. Johns Hopkins paces the nine-team field with 103 points.

 

 

Pomatto continued her breakout collegiate debut season by winning the discus on her throw of 37.75 meters. She became the first Bear to win the women's discus crown since April Brown did so back in 1995. Pomatto led seven Bears in the event with two others earning top-five finishes. Sophomore Jacqueline Allen placed fourth with her throw of 31.19 meters while first-year Erin Hendershot recorded a fifth-place finish on a mark of 30.72 meters.

 

 

Junior Rachel Conhoff earned the silver medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase after posting a career-best time of 11:21.78 in a competitive race with gold-medalist Nora Blodgett from Swarthmore. Conhoff also anchored the Bears 4x800 relay team that finished third overall to earn the bronze medal. The team which also included junior Holly Chambers, sophomore Brooke Adams, and first-year Meghan Carroll smashed their seeding time by more than six seconds with a 9:45.00.

 

 

Seniors Tori Bearden and Rosie Cuomo each qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals tomorrow afternoon with times of 17.79 and 17.87, respectively. Senior Molly McCarthy tallied the 11th-fastest time in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 27.43 and first-year Sierra Hufnagle recorded the 10th-fastest 400-meter hurdle time of 1:15.18

 

 

The Bears conclude the 2022 Centennial Outdoor Championships tomorrow, May 8th with the first events going off at 11 a.m.
