Yanoff Sets School Record in Weight Throw on Day One of VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior Zenya Yanoff set a new school record in the weight throw as the Ursinus Women's Indoor Track & Field team opened its two-day competition in the VMI Winter Classic on Friday afternoon.

 

The meet features 27 schools ranging from the Division I all the way up to the Division III level.

 

Yanoff led five Bears in the weight throw with an indoor school record mark of 44-5.5 ft. and finished second overall among Division III throwers in the event (15th overall). She topped the previous mark of 42-9 ft. set by Sophia Simoes back in 2019 and set the third-best throw this season in the Centennial Conference. Junior Hannah Bierling registered a personal-best weight throw mark with a 39-7.25 ft. and finished second among the Bear throwers in the event.

 

 

First-year Meghan Carroll set a new personal-best in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.82 and finished fourth among Division III runners in the race. Senior Lauren Ferguson and first-year Ryann Wauthier both set personal-bests in the 5000 meters with times of 19:41.95 and 19:45.00, respectively. Senior Rosie Cuomo and junior Tori Bearden posted times in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with Cuomo getting the edge on a time of 10.50 while Bearden posted a 10.64.

 

 

Senior Kate Hunt and junior Samantha Levai both posted marks in the 60-meter dash prelims as Hunt paced the two with a time of 8.51 and Levai tallied a 8.90.

 

 

Ursinus will complete competition in the VMI Winter Classic tomorrow, February 12th starting at 10 a.m.
