Snyder Takes on NCAA Outdoor Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa – Senior Krista Snyder made history on Thursday as she officially became the first member of the Ursinus track and field program to compete in a multi event at the NCAA Division III outdoor championships. Testing her mettle among a field of the nation's top student-athletes on a hot day in the Midwest, Snyder sits in 21st place overall after four events of the heptathlon, with the long jump, javelin, and 800 meters to be contested tomorrow at Wartburg College.

Snyder tallied 2252 points on Day One. Wooster's Hilary Cody tops the charts with 3067, with Carleton's Amelia Campbell (2994) in second and Illinois Wesleyan's Jill Harmon (2980) in third. Johns Hopkins' Jenn Su is fifth with 2775 points.

Snyder began her NCAA championship adventure with the 100-meter hurdles, coming in 18th with a mark of 16.64, the second-best time of her career. Her collegiate standard came exactly a week ago at North Central College's Gregory Final Qualifier. She came back shortly thereafter to post a 4-6.75 in the high jump and a 27-4.75 in the shot put before closing the day's action with a 27.27 in the 200-meter dash.

The heptathlon continues with the long jump, which gets underway Friday at 1:00 p.m.
