Track and Field Teams Underway at Centennial Conference Championship

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College track and field teams kicked off the first day of competition at the Centennial Conference outdoor championship on Friday, leading off the three-day event with the heptathlon, pole vault, and 10,000-meter runs.

Senior Krista Snyder, the defending heptathlon champion, stands in second place after four events, procuring a total of 2359 points to trail only 2014 champion Paige Marsh of Johns Hopkins (2573). Dickinson's Sophie Moore is third with 2170 points.

Snyder, fresh off a sixth-place finish and a school record at the 122nd Penn Relays, began the afternoon with a third-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles, where her time of 16.74 was three-hundredths of a second off her personal best. The senior then took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-7.50.

Snyder hit her stride in the final two events, winning both the shot put and 200-meter dash. Her toss of 30-5.75 was over a foot better than her previous collegiate benchmark and nearly a foot and a half better than Marsh's second-place effort. Snyder then posted a 26.82 in the 200, which stood .57 seconds in front of Marsh.

The heptathlon will conclude Saturday with the long jump, the javelin, and the 800-meter run.
