Track and Field Tunes up for CC Championship

EWING, N.J. – With the Centennial Conference outdoor championship looming less than a week away, the Ursinus College track and field teams sent a small contingent to TCNJ to tune up with the Lions Invitational.

For the women, junior Erin Farrell was sixth among Division III competitors in the 100-meter dash, where her time of 13.07 was just .04 ticks off her season best, which ranks 11th in the Centennial Conference. She came back with a 26.41 in the 200, matching her season high from Gwynedd Mercy's Twilight Invitational, which places her fifth in the conference.

Sophomore Jenna Kelly was the fifth Division III runner to finish the 400, winning her heat and placing 14th overall with a season-best mark of 1:01.47; that moved her to 12th in the conference.

Freshman Audrey Simpson finished only .17 seconds away from a personal record with a 2:36.11 in the 800.

Senior Kimberly Snow's leap of 4-8.75 was enough for a season best in the high jump; she now ranks 13th in the conference.

Freshman Caroline Buckley shattered her personal best in the triple jump, where her 34-2.75 was almost a foot better than her previous record. She won her heat and finished 13th overall, and her new benchmark elevated her several spots to a tie for fifth on the CC performance list.

For the men, Senior Skyler McCormick landed just shy of a season best with a 51.49 in the 400 meters, and sophomore Patrick Mekongo did establish a new season standard with a mark of 51.88, placing him just inside the top 20 in the CC.

Sophomore Mitchell Kelly ran a personal best in the 800, finishing third in his heat with a time of 2:02.78. Junior Luke Schlegel (2:08.70) and freshmen Jonny Cope (2:09.59) and Evan Cirafesi (2:10.16) also delivered season-best performances in the event.

Senior Erich Keyser was third in his 110-meter hurdles heat (16.63).

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad, comprised of sophomore Jequan Mitchell, Keyser, McCormick, and Mekongo registered a season-best clocking of 43.77, good for third on the CC performance list.

Junior Thomas Donnelly logged a toss of 34-9.75 in the shot put, only an inch and a quarter off his season benchmark.

The Centennial Conference championship gets underway on Friday afternoon at Dickinson College.
