Bears' Quartet Places Third in 4x400-Meter Relay at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The Ursinus College women's track and field team concluded its stay at the 122nd Penn Relays with a third-place showing from its 4x400-meter relay team in the Centennial/MAC showdown on Thursday night at storied Franklin Field.

Seniors Kristen Prijs and Krista Snyder and sophomores Meggie Leitz and Jenna Kelly registered a time of 4:07.21, good for third behind Johns Hopkins – which set an event record with a clocking of 3:54.63 – and Misericordia (4:01.82) in a field of eight. Widener (4:10.52) was fourth, followed by Moravian (4:12.23), Swarthmore (4:12.38), Dickinson (4:13.96), and Bryn Mawr (4:33.92).

The Bears' splits were remarkably consistent. Prijs led off with a team-best 1:00.94, and Snyder followed with a 1:01.04. Leitz posted a 1:04.02 in the third leg and Kelly capped the heat with a 1:01.23 in the anchor spot. Prijs, Snyder, and Kelly's times were all among the nine fastest splits of the race; other than the Blue Jays' team, only two athletes registered better marks than the Bears' trio.

The track and field teams head to The College of New Jersey for the Lions Invitational on Saturday, April 30.
