Farrell Repeats, Relay Breaks Record at CC Indoor Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A record-breaking relay and a second consecutive championship in the 200-meter dash for junior Erin Farrell headlined the final day of competition for the Ursinus College women's track and field team at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships. In addition to Farrell's gold, the Bears claimed three silver medals to wind up in fifth place for the second consecutive season.

Johns Hopkins captured its sixth straight indoor crown with 203 points, with Haverford (120.5) a distant second. Dickinson (83.5) was third, followed by Gettysburg (74.5), Ursinus (67.5), Muhlenberg (54), Franklin & Marshall (40), Swarthmore (38), Bryn Mawr (13), and McDaniel (8).

Farrell blazed her way to a time of 26.37 in the 200, outpacing Haverford's Taylor Murphy by .06 seconds to defend her crown in thrilling fashion. With the result, Farrell became the first women's track athlete to win back-to-back golds in the indoor 200 since Gettysburg's Lauren Parker accomplished a three-peat from 2004-2006.

Farrell also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x200-meter relay team that recorded a new school record with a time of 1:47.66, .09 seconds better than the old mark, which had held strong since 2006. She was joined by seniors Kristen Prijs and Krista Snyder and sophomore Jenna Kelly. The Bears were just .60 seconds behind Haverford's winning quartet.

Senior Kristen Prijs collected a silver of her own in the 400-meter dash, posting a 1:00.37 to edge Johns  Hopkins' Emily Nordquist in third.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Prijs, Snyder, Kelly, and Farrell earned second place with a mark of 4:09.11, behind only Johns Hopkins, which set a meet record with a clocking of 4:01.40.

Senior Elizabeth Cooley came within a whisker of matching her own school record in the pole vault, instead settling for a silver medal and a mark of 9-11.75.

Freshman Brittany Gasser garnered fifth place in the 800-meter run, logging a personal best with a time of 2:22.68, just shy of half a second faster than her previous season benchmark.

Senior Kimberly Snow scored points in the high jump, where she finished tied for seventh with a 4-9.75.
