Women's Track off to flying start in 2010 with win at Bow-Tie Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – It was quite a first meet for the Ursinus College women's track and field team on Saturday afternoon at the Bow-Tie Track Classic hosted by the Bears.

Not only did the Bears take the top spot with 128 points, outdistancing Division I Coppin State by 43 points, freshman Amy Galvin (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) hit the NCAA Provisional Mark in the high jump with a height of 1.67 meters (5-5.75 feet) as she won the event.

Ursinus excelled in the jumping events, as freshman Maria Fendrick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) was second in the long jump at 4.69 meters, followed by sophomore Celina Sooksatan (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) in fourth at 4.54, freshman Victoria Goodenough (Oxford, England/McDonough School) in fifth at 4.53 and sophomore Leah Shaw (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) in sixth at 4.33 meters.

Freshman Annie Hudson (Rochester, N.Y./Emma Willard) took home a sixth place in the high jump at 1.52 meters.

In the pole vault, junior Lauren Surman (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) was fourth with a mark of 2.90 meters. In the triple jump, Fendrick was fifth with a mark of 9.89 meters, followed by Shaw in sixth at 9.67 meters.

In the sprints, sophomore Amanda Laurito (Philadelphia, Pa./PA Home Schoolers) was sixth in the 55 meter dash at 7.69, with junior Kirsten King (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) finishing fourth in the 200 meter dash at 27.53 and third in the 400 meter dash at 1:01.65. Goodenough was fourth in the 55 hurdles at 8.92.

In the distance events, sophomore Jordan Kellogg (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was fourth in the 800 meter run at 2:38.28, with senior Deb Yanessa (Haddonfield, N.J./Paul IV) sixth at 2:38.94. Yannessa would later place third in the mile run at 5:49.55, followed by junior Stephanie Donatone (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) in fourth at 5:50.12, and freshman Rachel Albershardt (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) in sixth at 6:00.95.

Junior Sabrina Cimerol (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was third in the 5k, taking a time of 21:01.67.

The team of Goodenough, King, sophomore Carina Doyle (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and senior Lauren Lammers (Haddon Heights, N.J./Bishop Eustace) was third in the 4x2 relay at 1:50.53, followed by the team of King, Doyle, Goodenough and freshman Francesca Macera (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) in fourth place in the 4x4 relay at 4:18.48.

The team of Yanessa, Kellogg, Albershardt and sophomore Brianna Kramer (Drums, Pa./MMI Prep School) was second in the 4x8 relay at 10:52.99.
