Women's Tennis Defeated on the Road by No. 27 Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to No. 27 Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

 

 

With the loss, the Bears fell to 9-4 overall and 3-1 overall in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Garnet improved to 9-1 overall and kept their perfect conference record intact at 4-0.

 

 

Swarthmore captured all three doubles points to take a 3-0 advantage in the match. At the first doubles spot, the duo of first-year Allie Armour and senior Maddie Russell fell 8-0 to Nathalie Williams and Spencer Watts. Swarthmore's Anna Miller and Sophie Brown defeated the Bears duo of sophomores Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Avery Samer 8-4 at the No. 2 doubles position while sophomore Claire Burke and first-year Shannon Stewart were defeated in the No. 3 doubles spot by Grace Dignazio and Ruthie Njagiby a score of 8-3.  

 

 

In singles, Russell was defeated by Jenny Lewis 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position and Burke fell to Williams at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Watts downed Vinsonhaler 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Brown bested Samer 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles spot. Miller defeated junior Ava Compagnoni 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 singles spot while Dignazio won 6-0, 6-1 over Stewart.

 

 

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, April 16th as they will take on their second-straight nationally ranked opponent in No. 24 Johns Hopkins at 12:00 p.m.
