Women's Tennis Records 7-2 Win over Bryn Mawr on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team notched their fifth-straight win as they took down Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference action on Saturday evening at Perkiomen Valley High School.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Owls fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Centennial play. Prior to the contest, the Bears honored its lone senior Maddie Russell and assistant coach and former Ursinus women's tennis student-athlete Brenna Trkula, who graduated in December.

 

The Bears won two of the first three doubles matches to gain the early advantage in the match. First-year Shannon Stewart and sophomore Claire Burke earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 singles over Wynn Bryant and Kelly Cole while Russell and junior Ava Compagnoni earned the win at the No. 3 spot with an 8-1 triumph over Lilly Pfister and Mary Rose Gilliland. Sophomores Avery Samer and Caitlin Vinsonhaler were defeated by Lowrey West and Fernanda Hurtado, 8-5.

 

Stewart continued her unbeaten day by earning a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Gilliland and Burke cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cole at the No. 2 position. Samer clinched the match for the Bears by defeating Hurtado 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 position and Compagnoni followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pfister at the No. 4 spot. Vinsonhaler suffered the only singles loss at the No. 3 position as she was downed by West, 6-4, 6-1. Russell closed the day with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Bryant at the No. 1 position.

 

Ursinus returns to action tomorrow, April 3rd as they will take on Salisbury at 2 p.m. in non-conference action.
