Women's Tennis Takes Down Baldwin Wallace, 7-2

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip with a 7-2 win over Baldwin Wallace on Friday morning at the USTA National Campus

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 4-2 with their second-straight victory. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) fell to 1-7 overall.

 

Burke got things going in the singles for Ursinus as she capped a strong week by winning 6-0, 6-1 over Lizzy Cole and sophomore Avery Samer followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emma Trost at No. 6 singles. First-year Shannon Stewart fell to 6-0, 6-1 to Hanna LeMaster, but first-year Allie Armour earned her first singles win of the week for the Bears by defeating Ashtyn Morris 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Caitlin Vinsonhaler won a thrilling 4-6, 7-5, (10-6) match at No. 3 singles over Kierstyn Yates to clinch the match and senior Maddie Russell finished off Singles with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Gabriela Heideman for her first singles win of the week.

 

The Bears took two of the first three doubles matches to finish off the match. The No. 1 singles duo of first-year Armour and Russell dropped an 8-3 decision to Morris and Heideman but Ursinus quickly bounced back as Vinsonhaler and Samer bested  Cole and LeMaster at No 2 singles by a score of 8-6.  Burke and junior Ava Compagnoni defeated Yates and Mattie Hicks at the No. 3 spot, 8-5 to complete the Bears victory. 

 

Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, March 19th as they will take on Lebanon Valley at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
