Women's Tennis Downed by Wittenberg in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ursinus Bears women's tennis team began its spring season portion of its schedule with a 9-0 loss to Wittenberg in their first match of their Florida spring break trip on Monday.

 

 

With the loss, the Bears dropped to 2-1 overall after winning both matches in the fall. Meanwhile, the Tigers of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) improved to 4-3 overall.

 

 

 Wittenberg won all three of the doubles points to take the initial 3-0 lead in the match. At the first doubles spot, Wittenberg's Caroline Sproule and Ashley Isaac defeated the Bears duo of first-year Allie Armour and senior Maddie Russell, 8-0. Sophomores Avery Samer and Caitlin Vinsonhaler were defeated in the No. 2 doubles spot by PJ Meyers and Sydney Khosla a score of 8-4, while the duo of first-year Shannon Stewart and sophomore Claire Burke fell 8-5 at the No. 3 doubles spot to Sidney Purks and Meena Virk

 

 

 In singles, Armour was defeated by Isaac 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while Russell suffered a 6-0, 6-2 setback to Sproule at the No. 2 spot. Vinsonhaler fell 6-1, 6-2 to Khosla at the No. 3 spot and Burke lost 6-2, 6-0 to Purks at No. 4 singles. Stewart dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 spot and junior Ava Compagnoni was defeated 6-1, 6-3 at the No.6 spot by Clair Stechow

 

 

 The Bears will return to action tomorrow, March 8th as they will play a pair of matches with Otterbein being the first opponent at 8:00 a.m. and Emerson in the nightcap at 5:30 p.m.
