Women's Tennis Buries Bearcats

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team will head home from Florida with three straight victories in tow following the Bears' 8-1 rout of Saint Vincent on Thursday night, giving the Bears a 4-1 mark on their spring break swing.

Other than number one singles, where the Bearcats' Susie Ellis posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over junior Aileen Bevard, Ursinus (5-1) was thoroughly dominant. The Bears lost a total of ten games scattered over the remaining eight matches, and only one singles set was closer than 6-1.

Freshman Caitlyn Sorelle and senior Christine Palazzolo each won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play, Sorelle over Breana Liberoni at number two and Palazzolo at number six against Tori Monstrola. Junior Ariel Danziger lost only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 decision opposite Carson Snyder at fourth singles. Classmate Ashley Nguyen was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Autumn Miller at number three, and senior Robin Alsher handled Lisa Marthens 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth slot.

Bevard and Nguyen shut out Ellis and Miller, 8-0, at number one doubles, with Danziger and Sorelle extending their perfect shared mark to 10-0 with an 8-1 defeat of Maria Gismondi and Anita Onufer.

Palazzolo and Alsher made it a clean sweep of doubles play with an 8-4 result against Liberoni and Lauren Campbell at number three.

Ursinus has won its last 16 doubles matches and is a robust 20-4 (.833) this season.

Two Bears achieved milestones – Danziger became the fourth player in program history to reach 30 career singles wins, and Palazzolo became the fifth to win 30 career doubles matches.

The women's tennis team has a week off before traveling to Lebanon Valley for a non-conference clash on Thursday, March 16.
