Bashaw Garners Academic All-Area Nod

Bashaw Garners Academic All-Area Nod

PHILADELPHIA – BreAnna Bashaw, a 2016 graduate of Ursinus College, was selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis team, as voted upon by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metro area.

Bashaw is the Bears' all-time leader in overall wins (100), doubles wins (51), and singles wins (49). A two-year team captain, Bashaw was a second team All-Centennial Conference doubles selection alongside Ariel Danziger, the first doubles team in program history to earn all-conference honors. Bashaw and Danziger matched junior Christine Palazzolo and senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra with 17 victories this past season, establishing a new Ursinus benchmark. They were 8-2 in CC matches and closed the season on a nine-match winning streak that included triumphs over duos from conference playoff teams in Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore, and Franklin & Marshall.

Bashaw, who became the first player in Bears history to reach 100 career wins with two victories in the season finale at McDaniel, was also named to the CC's All-Sportsmanship Team. One of 11 women's tennis student-athletes to collect both all-conference and Academic Honor Roll recognition, Bashaw majored in biology and graduated with a 3.80 GPA.

Rutgers-Camden's Amanda Hickman was chosen as the Performer of the Year, while Drexel's Clary Rodriguez Cruz, Penn's Kana Daniel, and Chestnut Hill's Laure-Anne Josso and Lara Scholtze joined Bashaw on the Academic All-Area squad.
