Women's Tennis Quiets Owls in CC Tilt

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Looking to finish strong, the Ursinus College women's tennis matched left Bryn Mawr with a 6-3 Centennial Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon in their penultimate match of the season.

Sophomore Ariel Danziger and junior Aileen Bevard were double winners for the Bears (10-7, 3-5), who reached double-digit victories for the second straight season and defeated Bryn Mawr (6-14, 2-8) for the fourth straight year.

Danizger joined senior captain BreAnna Bashaw for an 8-0 shutout at number two doubles, a critical victory for Bashaw, who can become the first player in team history to reach 100 career wins with two more in the season finale at McDaniel. Junior Christine Palazzolo and senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra sent Ursinus into singles play with a 2-1 lead after dispatching the Owls' third doubles team by an 8-3 margin.

The Bears' depth paid major dividends in individual competition. Bryn Mawr got wins from Melina Koukoutchos at number one and Lizzie Siegle at number two, but Ursinus took care of the other four courts with relative ease, dropping no more than five games in any of those matches.

Bevard posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at third singles, moving to 15-2 in dual play with her fourth consecutive triumph. Danziger was just as dominant on the fourth court, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 rout, and Palazzolo corralled a 6-2, 6-1 result at fifth singles. Junior Robin Alsher, playing in her fourth dual match of the season, collected a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the sixth flight.

Bashaw seeks history – and her team a high note to finish out the regular season – when the Bears head to McDaniel for a CC match on Saturday, April 30.
