Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to six with victories over Lebanon Valley and Juniata in its home opener on Saturday. The Bears blanked the Dutchmen, 9-0, before posting a 6-3 triumph against the Eagles.

The Bears took care of doubles with relative ease in the opener, as sophomores Ashley Nguyen and Aileen Bevard rolled, 8-0, at number one before junior Christine Palazzolo and senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra posted an 8-1 triumph at third doubles. Senior BreAnna Bashaw teamed with sophomore Ariel Danziger to prevail by an 8-1 count at number two.

Bevard (6-1, 6-1) and sophomore Christie Pawl (6-0, 6-1) dominated at third and fifth singles, respectively, and Danziger won 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth flight. Bashaw was a 6-0, 7-5 victor at number two, junior Robin Alsher logged a 6-1, 6-3 verdict at number six, and Nguyen picked up her first dual-match victory of the season with a 6-3, 7-5 score on the top court.

Ursinus took two of three doubles courts against Juniata, with Nguyen and Bevard capturing an 8-4 win at first and Palazzolo and Seabra coming out on top, 8-5, at third.

Bashaw scored a 6-2, 6-2 decision at second singles, and Bevard rolled 6-1, 6-1 at third. Danziger pulled away for a 6-1, 6-2 tally at number four, and Seabra completed her undefeated afternoon with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 marathon at sixth singles.

The Bears open their Centennial Conference slate on Wednesday, March 30 against Washington College.
