Women's Swimming Places Six on All-CC Team

LANCASTER, PA. -  Six members of the Ursinus College women's swimming team were officially recognized with All-Centennial Conference awards after their performances last weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships.

Seniors Sophie Lear, Liv Rachael, and Ro Murphy; sophomore Melissa Leonard; and first-year Katie Barlow all garnered first team certificates for their gold-medal performances, announced by the conference Thursday morning.

The Bears swept the major awards – as Lear was named Most Outstanding Performer, and sophomore Melissa Leonard was the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, and head coach Mark Feinberg was voted Coach of the year for the 9th time in his career.

The Bears also took home gold medals in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The quartet of Lear, Barlow, Leonard, and Rachael touched the wall at 1:36.23 in the 200. In the 400 free relay, Rachael, Murphy, Leonard and Lear combined for a first-place finish with a time of 3:29.48.

Lear captured the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 IM titles. She became one of four Ursinus swimmers to win the conference's top honor of Most Outstanding Performer along with Sydney Gundersen (2018), Peyton Lyons (2017), and Malena Lair Ferrari (2014). Lear became the first Bear and sixth swimmer in CC history to win the award multiple times, as she also collected MOP and Rookie outstanding Performer awards at the 2019 meet.

Leonard won all three of her freestyle individual events (200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free). She became the fourth Bear to win Rookie Outstanding Performer honors since the award was instituted in 2013, joining Lear and former Ursinus standouts Lyons and Lair Ferrari in the top rookie club.

Junior Abigail Ferguson was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
