Women's Swimming Kicks Off 2021-22 Season

LANCASTER, PA. - The Ursinus College Women's swimming team kicked off their 2021-22 season in a Centennial Conference quad meet at Franklin & Marshall with McDaniel and Swarthmore on Saturday.  

Sophie Lear led the Bears with a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.59. For the Ursinus women, the quartet of Liv Rachael, Lauren Badger, Melissa Leonard, and Sophie Lear highlighted the day with an event victory, finishing first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.  

Melissa Leonard had an impressive showing, recording second place finishes in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. Freshman Katie Barlow finished just behind Georgi Mathews of Swarthmore for a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle event, with a time of 11:07.66. The Bears were defeated by Swarthmore (187-74) and Franklin & Marshall (140-120), but prevailed against McDaniel 187-60. Liv Rachael recorded a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle event. Molly Stevens recorded two third-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. 

The ladies will return to action Saturday as they host York College at 1:00PM.
