COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming made its Senior Day one to remember, breaking four pool records in a 120-75 Centennial Conference rout of Washington College on Saturday.

Both relay teams established new Ellioot Pool benchmarks for the Bears, as did seniors Olivia Tierney (200 breast) and junior Peyten Lyons (200 back). Lyons was involved in three of the record-breaking swims, while Tierney and fellow senior Sydney Gundersen each had a hand in two in the penultimate home meet of their career.

After honoring Gundersen, Meggie Leitz, Katherine Porter, Tierney, and Rachel Weil, the Bears kicked off the meet in historic fashion as two of its seniors combined to take down the pool record in the 400 medley relay. Junior Peyten Lyons led off the sequence and was followed by Tierney, junior Clara Baker, and Gundersen on the way to clocking a 3:58.70; that time was nearly two full seconds faster than the previous mark, established in 2015 by Lyons, Tierney, Baker, and Corinne Capodanno.

Freshman Becca Warren started the individual proceedings with a thrilling victory in the 1000 free, taking down three-time CC Swimmer of the Week Julia Portmann in one of the closest races of the afternoon. Warren's collegiate-best 10:56.81 was enough to edge Portmann by just .05 seconds and move the Ursinus rookie into fourth on the conference performance list.

Gundersen, the CC leader in the 200 free, claimed first place with a 1:57.12 in the event. Sophomore Margrethe Leis (2:02.13) was third and junior Kathryn Longenecker (2:02.77) finished fourth.

Baker was just behind Washington's Jenni Clune with a 25.65 in the 50 free, and freshman Katherine Kurzinsky was hot on Baker's heels with a 25.68.

Junior Gabriella Timuscuk won the 400 IM in 4:48.74, leading a 1-2-3 Bears sweep. Junior Katherine Madden placed second in a season-best 4:49.86, and freshman Allison Thomas eclipsed her previous season benchmark by more than five seconds with a time of 4:52.00.

Leitz eased her way to victory in the 200 fly (2:10.33), where senior Katherine Porter was second (2:16.94).

May scored an impressive win over Clune in the 100 free, touching in 54.90.

Ursinus followed with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 back, headlined by Lyons' 2:08.95 that broke the previous pool record of 2:10.30 held by Leitz. Junior Caroline Powell (2:17.13) was second, and Madden (2:17.35) took third.

Longenecker was the top performer in the 500 free with a 5:24.54.

Tierney put a bow on her Senior Day with a pool-record 2:25.48 in the 200 breast, more than two seconds better than her own previous benchmark from 2015.

May, Lyons, Baker, and Gundersen established another pool record with a 1:40.20 in the 200 free relay, edging the former standard of 1:40.88 from 2014.  

The women's swimming team concludes its dual meet season with a home contest against Bryn Mawr on Saturday, February 10.
