Three Swimmers Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA – Three members of the three-time defending Centennial Conference champion Ursinus College women's swimming team – seniors Corinne Capodanno and Micaela Lyons and sophomore Olivia Tierney – were selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team, as voted on by the sports information offices of the 30 colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area.

Capodanno's standout career ended with five more CC gold medals and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championships. One of only two three-time conference champions in the 200-yard freestyle, Capodanno was an honorable mention All-American in the event a year ago. She leaves Ursinus with CC records in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.75), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.01), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.77), 800-yard freestyle relay (7:41.35), and 400-yard medley relay (3:50.30) in addition to a school record in the 100-yard freestyle (52.24).

Capodanno was one of four Ursinus student-athletes to be named to the Winter Academic All-Centennial Team – which honors sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned all-conference recognition and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher – and is a three-time member of the CC's Academic Honor Roll.

Micaela Lyons had a hand in four gold medals at the conference meet this year, joining the victorious 200 and 400 free relays and the 400 medley relay in addition to her individual title in the 100-yard freestyle. Lyons was a member of the 200 free relay team that set a new conference mark at the championship meet.

Tierney completed a stellar sophomore campaign that included CC records in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.71) as well as the 200- and 400-yard medley relays. At the conference meet, Tierney became the first Ursinus swimmer in program history – and the only the fifth in CC history – to win multiple gold medals in the 200 breast. She joined Capodanno on the Winter Academic All-Centennial Team and will be named to the CC's Winter Academic Honor Roll later this spring.
