Lyons Betters 200 Back Record as Women's Swimming Closes Historic Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team's sensational season officially came to a close Saturday morning, as senior Corinne Capodanno and freshman Peyten Lyons competed in their final events at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Lyons lowered her own school record in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a 2:04.55 to place 24th overall in the prelims. Lyons' previous best of 2:04.61 was set in her gold medal-winning swim at the Centennial Conference championship meet.

Lyons wrapped up her historic rookie campaign with conference records in the 100 back (56.50), 200 IM (2:07.70), 200 medley relay (1:47.67), 400 medley relay (3:50.30), and 400 free relay (3:30.77) in addition to her program record in the 200 back. She was named the CC's Most Outstanding Performer and Most Outstanding Rookie Performer and compiled six gold medals at the conference meet.

Capodanno finished 42nd in the 100-yard freestyle prelims, clocking a 52.68 in the last race of her superb career.

Both swimmers outperformed their seeds; Lyons was slotted 29th coming in, and Capodanno was 45th.

Capodanno leaves Ursinus with Centennial Conference records in the 200 free (1:50.75), 200 free relay (1:36.01), 400 free relay (3:30.77), 800 free relay (7:41.35), and 400 medley relay (3:50.30) to go with an individual school record in the 100 free (52.24). One of only two three-time conference champions in the 200 free, she was an All-American in the event a year ago.
