Women's Swimming Trio Headed to NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three members of the Ursinus College women's swimming team – senior Corinne Capodanno and freshmen Peyten Lyons and Clara Baker – have qualified for the NCAA Division III championships and will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina for the national meet next month. The three individual qualifiers, each of whom will compete in three events, marks a program record.

Capodanno is making a return trip to the NCAA championships after earning All-American status in the 200-yard freestyle in Shenandoah, Texas a year ago. She set a new Centennial Conference record with a time of 1:50.75 in the prelims, good for ninth overall, and finished 16th in the finals. She also participated in the 50-yard freestyle finals.

This time, Capodanno will be competing in the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 200 free. In the unofficial psych sheets released Wednesday, she was listed 46th in the 50 free with a seed time of 24.48, 45th in the 100 free (52.61), and 20th in the 200 free (1:52.11). Capodanno recently became only the third swimmer in CC history to win the 200 free three times.

Lyons, the CC's Most Outstanding Performer and Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, is seeded 31st in the 200-yard IM (2:06.54), 17th in the 100-yard backstroke (56.50), and 29th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.61). The rookie won gold medals in all three events at the CC championship meet.

Baker is seeded 45th in the 50-yard freestyle (24.33), 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (55.54), and 32nd in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.44). Baker was the 100-yard butterfly champion at the CC meet.

The NCAA championships will be held March 16-19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference will serve as the host for the meet, which will feature a total of 527 participants.
