Women's Swimming Rolls at Albright

READING, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team had no trouble stretching its dual-meet winning streak to 36 this afternoon, as the Bears won every event in rolling to a 123-66 triumph in a non-conference matchup at Albright.

Junior Katie Pielmeier, sophomore Olivia Tierney, freshman Clara Baker, and freshman Peyten Lyons won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:08.84, with the foursome of sophomore Katherine Porter, freshman Gabrielle Timuscuk, freshman Julia Adams, and senior Micaela Lyons taking second in 4:15.25.

Freshman Kathryn Longenecker dominated the mile freestyle, touching the wall nearly 30 seconds ahead of her closest competition with a clocking of 19:07.38. Sophomore Rachel Weil was runner-up.

Freshman Samantha Kegel headlined a 1-2-3 Bear finish in the 200-yard freestyle, her time of 2:04.42 edging out juniors Allison Emick (2:05.03) and Marisa Ferrari (2:06.05). Junior Alexandra Hemp captured the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.41, with senior Corinne Capodanno placing second in 29.59.

Peyten Lyons followed with a victory in the 200-yard IM (2:17.19), where freshman Katherine Madden was second and Tierney took third. Porter collected the individual title in the 100-yard butterfly (59.22), with Timuscuk right behind in second (1:00.12) and Pielmeier placing third (1:01.16).

Sophomore Sydney Gundersen was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 54.45 seconds to stay ehad of Baker (55.17) and sophomore Reney Hess.

Madden was first to touch in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.79), a thrilling finish that saw her edge out Kegel by a mere three-hundredths of a second. Micaela Lyons was third for the Bears.

The scoring stopped there as Ursinus went to an exhibition format, but freshman Caroline Powell was first to finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.06), with Adams (5:35.60) and Emick (5:35.66) separated by sixth-hundredths of a tick in second and third, respectively. Tierney was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.25), with Gundersen (1:11.53) and Hemp (1:12.74) not far behind.

Ferrari, Timuscuk, Baker, and Peyten Lyons won the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Porter, Weil, Micaela Lyons, and sophomore Margaret Leitz took second and Powell, Madden, Capodanno, and Kegel were third.
