Baker Named Division III National Swimmer of the Week

SOMERS, Wis. – After helping to break a pair of Centennial Conference records, Ursinus College freshman Clara Baker (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) was named the Team Unify/CollegeSwimming.com Division III National Women's Swimmer of the Week, becoming the first swimmer in program history to earn that honor. The organization also selected sophomore Olivia Tierney (Broomall, Pa./Villa Maria) as the Centennial Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Baker and Tierney teamed with freshman Peyten Lyons (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) and senior Corinne Capodanno (Claymont, Del./Padua Academy) to set two new conference marks at West Chester University's Golden Ram Classic last weekend. The quartet began the two-day event with a record-setting time of 1:47.67 in the 200-yard medley relay, then followed that up with a time of 3:53.20 in the 400-yard medley relay.

Baker also established a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly, registering a national B-cut clocking of 55.60 seconds one heat after sophomore Margaret Leitz (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) broke the previous program record. Baker touched the wall in 2:07.44 in the 200-yard butterfly, another B-cut time.

Baker joined sophomore Sydney Gundersen (Reading, Pa./Exeter), senior Micaela Lyons (Plainfield, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge School), and junior Alexandra Hemp (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppague) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, and she and Capodanno paired with Gunderson and Peyten Lyons to post a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Tierney placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke, third in the 100-yard breaststroke, and fifth in the 400-yard IM.
