Lyons, Tierney, and Bears

The Ursinus College Women's swim team kicked off their 2015-16 season with win over Dickinson College on Saturday. The meet began with the Bears finishing 1-2-3 in the medley relay. The relay team of Peyten Lyons, Olivia Tierney, Clara Baker, and Corinne Capodanno set a pool record in their first swim of the season with a time of 4:00.49. All four swimmers would go onto win events later in the meet.

Peyten Lyons followed up the relay by winning the newly recognized 100 IM in a conference record time of 1:01.82. She also finished 3rd in the 200 Back, right behind teammate Samantha Kegel who finished second with a time of 2:12.87.

Tierney, a sophomore, would go on to finish 4th in the 100 IM and 1st in the 200 breaststroke with another pool record of 2:27.54. In the same event, freshman Gabriella Timuscuk would finish second with a time of 2:33.05.

Baker tied for first in the 50 freestyle with senior captain Micaela Lyons. Bears junior Alli Hemp finished third in the event.

Capodanno made her mark on the meet in the 200 freestyle, cruising to a victory in 1:58.14.

Other event winners included Katherine "KP" Porter in the 200 Fly (2:14.57), Sydney Gundersen in the 100 Free (55.19) and the Bear's 400 Free Relay of Clara Baker, Micaela Lyons, Corinne Capodanno and Sydney Gundersen (3:40.41).

The Ursinus Bears return to competition on Saturday, November 7th at York College of Pennsylvania where they'll swim a quad meet against York, St. Mary's of Maryland, and St. Vincent's College.
