Women's Swimming takes down Lycoming, 109-91

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Ursinus College womens swimming team improved to 2-0 on the young season as they defeated Lycoming 109-91. The meet featured two coaches who were high school teammates at Williamsport high school in Mark Feinberg of Ursinus and Jerry Hammaker of Lycoming. Freshman Malena Lair Ferrari (Bethesda, Md./The German School) captured three events on the afternoon in helping to lead Ursinus to the win.

The Bears started off by going 1-3 in the opening 200 yard medley relay as team of sophomore Jeannie Weaver (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest), freshman Eva Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), freshman Regina Shetler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and sophomore Sarah Kolosky (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) won the event with a time of 1:58.38. The team of freshman Bryn O'Neill (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Germantown Academy), senior Kacie McCormick (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), junior Danielle Yentz (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and sophomore Kelsey Yoo (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) was third at 2:01.89.

In the 1000 free, sophomore Kaylani Wertman (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) was second at 11:52.92, with freshman Molly Searfass (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) taking third at 11:58.88. Lair Ferrari won the 200 free at 2:01.02, followed by O'Neill in second at 2:05.71.

In the 50 free, sophomore Lianna Foster-Bey (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) picked up a top finish with a time of 26.07, with Kolosky in third place at 26.11. In the 400 IM, Russell was first at 5:01.24, followed by Yentz in second at 5:11.42.

Lair Ferrari picked up her second top finish of the day in the 100 fly, winning the event at 1:02.09. In the 100 free, Kolosky was second at 57.25, with Foster-Bey in third at 57.81. Yentz won the 100 back with a time of 1:06.64, followed by O'Neill in third place at 1:07.09.

Lair Ferrari got first place finish number three on the day as she won the 500 free at 5:27.20, followed by Wertman in second (5:48.93) and Serfass in third at 5:49.12. After the 500 free, Ursinus swam exhibition.
