Women's Swimming wins opener over Arcadia

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women swim team opened up the 2010-11 season with a 109-79 win over Arcadia Wednesday night.

The women started the meet by going 1-2 in the 200 yard medley relay with the team of freshman Kimberly Bullock (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), sophomore Sarah Kolosky (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), junior Kathryn Pall (Havertown, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame De Namur) and senior Kacie McCormick (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) took the top spot with a time of 2:05.25. The team of sophomore Sarah Ryan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), sophomore Lianna Foster-Bey (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), junior Kelly Reynolds (Newark, Del./Sanford School) and sophomore Kaylani Wertman (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) was second with a time of 2:07.75.

The Bears then went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free as freshman Malena Lair Ferrari (Bethesda, Md./The German School) took the top spot with a time of 10:56.85, followed by freshman Bryn O'Neill (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Germantown Academy) in second at 11:20.91. Junior Danielle Yentz (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) was third at 12:11.47.

The Bears again swept the 200 free as freshman Eva Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) won the event at 2:08.06, followed by Foster-Bey in second at 2:08.80. Kolosky was third at 2:10.24.

The sweeping pattern continued in the next three events as in the 50 free, sophomore Jeannie Weaver (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) was first at 26.96, freshman Molly Serfass (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) second at 27.63 and freshman Kaitlin Kirker (Rockaway Point, N.Y./Polytech Prep County Day School) in third at 28.16.

In the 200 IM, freshman Regina Shetler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was in first at 2:25.35, followed by freshman Katy Martin (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Bishop England) in second at 2:36.67, and sophomore Sarah Ryan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) in third via a judges decision, despite getting a time at 2:36.62.

In the 100 butterfly, Reynolds was first at 1:07.69, followed by Pall in second at 1:07.78 and Russell in third at 1:07.79. In the final scoring event of the night for Ursinus, O'Neill won the 100 free at 59.05, followed by Serfass in third at 59.67.
