ANNVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus started off the 2009-10 season on a high
note as the Bears swept Lebanon Valley in both ends of a swim meet
on Saturday.
The women won their side of things, 112-86, while the men won over
the Flying Dutchmen, 101-85.
In the opening relays, the women went 1-2 in the 200-meter medley
relay as the team of senior Emily Herman (Glenside,
Pa./Abington), freshman Lianna Foster-Bey
(Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), junior Jessica Saloky
(Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy), freshman Kelsey Yoo
(Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) won the event
with a time of 2:15.11. Freshman Sarah Ryan (Poughkeepsie,
N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), freshman Sarah Kolosky
(Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), sophomore
Kathryn Pall (Havertown, Pa./Academy of Notre
Dame) and senior Melissa Krupa (Philadelphia,
Pa./Archbishop Ryan) took second at 2:17.62.
In the 800-meter free, freshman Kaylani Wertman (Allentown,
Pa./William Allen) was first with a time of 10:27.68,
followed by senior Casey Gilmore (Glenside,
Pa./Abington) in second at 10:38.30. On the men's side,
Smith won the 800 free with a time of 9:24.14.
In the 200-meter free, sophomore Danielle Yentz
(Springfield, Pa./Springfield) won the event at 2:22.08,
with freshman David Wagner (Whitehall,
Pa./Whitehall) winning the men's 200 free at 2:08.43.
In the 200-IM, freshman Jeannie Weaver (Mays Landing,
N.J./Oakcrest) took top honors at 2:43.11, with Kolosky
finishing second at 2:44.65.
In the women's 100-fly, Saloky was second at 1:17.30, with junior
Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin)
winning the men's 100-fly at 1:03.77.
In the 100-free, Yoo was second at 1:06.50, with Tallon second for
the men in the event at 59.07.
Herman won the 100-back at 1:16.31, with freshman Scott
Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) winning the 100-back at
1:03.96.
In the final event that the Bears scored in before going to
exhibition, senior Elizabeth Gombosi (Wellsboro,
Pa./Wellsboro) won the 400-free at 5:06.90. Freshman
Adam McGonigle (Villanova, Pa./Harriton) was
second in the 400-free at 4:53.06.
Ursinus hosts Lycoming next Saturday.
