SWARTHMORE, Pa. - In a meet that came down to the final two
events, the Ursinus College women's team narrowly defeated
Swarthmore by a 106-99 score. In the men's meet, Swarthmore
defeated the Bears 131-74.
The women, with the win, improved to 5-1, 2-1 in the Centennial,
while the men fell to 4-2 and 1-2 in the Centennial.
Women
Ursinus, trailing 11 points coming into the 200-yard breaststroke,
went 1-2 in the event to get the much needed points. Junior
Jessica Saloky (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) won
the breaststroke event with a time of 2:35.04, while teammate
junior Bridget Winn (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville)
took second at 2:35.50.
Swarthmore's Stephanie Su took third at 2:35.53. Su was last year's
Centennial Conference champion in the event, while Saloky won the
event at CCs back in 2008.
In the final 400-free relay, the team of freshman Lianna
Foster-Bey (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), freshman
Jeannie Weaver (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest),
freshman Sarah Kolosky (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of
Lourdes) and sophomore Danielle Yentz
(Springfield, Pa./Springfield) took first at 3:47.07 to
win the meet.
Foster-Bey, Winn, Yentz and Weaver teamed up to win the opening
400-medley relay with a time of 4:12.79.
In the 1000-free, senior Emily Herman (Glenside,
Pa./Cheltenham Township) took second at 11:23.02, while
senior Lyndsay MacFeeters (Haddonfield,
N.J./Haddonfield) took second in the 200-free at
2:06.16.
In the 50-free, Kolosky took home first at 26.13, while Weaver just
missed second, finishing with a time of 26.39.
Foster-Bey picked up a first-place finish in the 100-free at 56.50,
while Yentz won the 200-back at 2:17.45. Senior Elizabeth
Gombosi (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) took second in the
event at 2:21.80.
In the 500-free, MacFeeters was second at 5:33.25.
