Late Raley Goal Pushes Women's Soccer Past Stevenson

PIKESVILLE, Md. – For the first time since 2015 the Ursinus College women's soccer team (2-0) will start its season with back-to-back wins. A scoreless affair through the first 80 minutes, freshman Morgan Raley scored her second goal in as many games in the 81st to push the Bears past Stevenson, 1-0.

Much like Friday when the Bears held Keystone to just one shot on goal, the defense had a strong game on Sunday as they held the Mustangs to two shots and helped goalie Sabrina Doherty to her second shutout of the season. It also marks the tenth clean sheet for Doherty in her career.

The Bears didn't quite match their 40 shots from Friday night, but still dominated the shots throughout the game, outshooting Stevenson 14-2.

After a scoreless first half in which the Bears missed out on a few chances, including a free kick from 18-yards out in the 10th minute that was punched away by the keeper, the Bears kept up the offensive pressure heading into the second. Julia Ewing, Morgan Raley, and Raya Mount each recorded shots in within the first 10-minutes of the second half.

Ewing had a chance to break the scoreless draw in the 63rd minute, but the Stevenson goalie came up the save. Doherty kept it scoreless at the other end in the 73rd minute as she recorded her second save of the afternoon.

With less than 10 minutes to go in regulation, the Bears pressure finally paid off. Raley hit a one-timer on a bouncing ball in the box that was played in by sophomore Skylar Knapp. Raley beat the keeper just inside the right post to put the Bears up, 1-0.
