Women's Soccer Draws Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Despite dominating play for most of the afternoon, the Ursinus College women's soccer team needed a goal in the closing minutes from senior Katie Bell to escape Bryn Mawr with a 1-1 Centennial Conference draw in the season finale on Saturday.

The Bears (3-10-3, 2-6-2) held commanding advantages in shots (42-7) and corner kicks (17-1), but found themselves staring at a surprise deficit when Bryn Mawr (0-13-1, 0-9-1) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 77th minute.

Bell, who netted the golden goal in a double-overtime win at Washington College three days prior, again came through in the clutch for Ursinus, dodging past the goalkeeper and finishing into the bottom of the net for an equalizer with just 3:15 left on the second-half clock.

The Bears forced two saves from Leah Baer in the first overtime session, and senior Kerry Goldstein had a hard shot ricochet off the crossbar with just over two minutes left in the second extra frame, but Ursinus could not unearth a game-winner.

Junior Mackenzie Groff and freshman Sabrina Doherty each ripped off ten shots for Ursinus, and Bell was close behind with eight. Bell's goal was her third of the season – marking a career high – and the seventh of her career.

Baer produced 16 saves to hold down the Bears' attack, while senior Marisa Kalkstein finished with three in her final match for Ursinus.

In addition to Bell and Kalkstein, seniors Stephanie DeAngelo, Goldstein, Kendall Couch, and Danielle Kuller all concluded their Ursinus careers.
