Bell's OT Score Lifts Women's Soccer to Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – For most of the contest, the Ursinus College women's soccer team was in defense-mode.

It wasn't until the second overtime when the Bears found their second shot of the game, and first on goal.

None of that mattered when Washington College whiffed on a clearance attempt less than two minutes into the second overtime period, allowing senior Katie Bell to blast home the game-winning goal, lifting her squad over the Shorewomen, 1-0. Bell's score was her second of the season, tying her career high.

The win was the Bears' (3-10-2, 2-6-1) first victory on the road and first in overtime this season. It's the first win in double overtime since 2015 at Gettysburg, where Bell assisted on the game-winner. The Bears have now shut out Washington College five years in a row.

The Bears defense was challenged early, as the Shorewomen (7-8-1, 2-7-1) fired plenty of shots through the first 45 minutes of play. While they managed seven shots, only two were on the net, but senior goalkeeper Marisa Kalkstein was able to make the two saves.

Senior Kendall Couch fired the only shot through the first frame for Ursinus, but it sailed wide of the goal.

The second half was more of the same, as the Shorewomen were persistent with their pressure, firing nine more shots toward Kalkstein. The defense held strong, allowing just six shots on goal. Kalkstein wasn't tested too much by the shots, but when she was she was solid between the pipes.

Kalkstein made her fourth consecutive start on goal, recording her second shutout in the last three games.

The Bears have one more game left on the schedule – a trip to Bryn Mawr on Saturday.
