Women's Soccer Dropped by No. 10 Hopkins

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team drew a tough matchup on Senior Day, succumbing to a 6-0 defeat at the hands of No. 10 Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

Michelle Santangelo netted a hat trick for the Blue Jays (13-2-1, 8-0), who led 2-0 at halftime and expanded their lead with a three-goal burst in less than five minutes early in the second frame.

Senior Kendall Couch accounted for two of the three shots for Ursinus (2-10-2, 1-6-1). Couch was one of nine players honored in a pregame ceremony, joining fellow seniors Katie Bell, Anna Budny, Stephanie DeAngelo, Stephanie Donahue, Kerry Goldstein, Marisa Kalkstein, Danielle Kuller, and Phoebe Shoap.

Bell, DeAngelo, Goldstein, and Kuller joined Kalkstein in the starting lineup.

Kalkstein made a career-high ten saves against an offensive onslaught from the Blue Jays, who unleashed 35 shots on the day and scored on a bevy of jaw-dropping plays.

Unfortunately for Budny, her Senior Day ended prematurely with a red card in the 8th minute, and the Bears were left chasing from there. Carly Lupton-Smith opened the scoring in the 17th minute, and Santangelo scored her first of the contest on an easy tap-in after Kalkstein made a great save on a header.

Ursinus remained within a pair of goals until the 58th minute, when Hopkins scored three times in less than five minutes. Hallie Horvath started the barrage with a 30-yard rocket to the top right corner, and Santangelo buried two headers over the next three minutes. Kristen Nixon capped the offense in the 86th minute.

The women's soccer team continues its season with a CC contest at Washington College on Wednesday, October 25.
