Dickinson Denies Women's Soccer

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team held a potent Dickinson offense in check for the vast majority of Saturday's Centennial Conference contest, but the Red Devils broke through midway through the second half and held on for a 1-0 victory.

Senior Marisa Kalkstein came up with five saves in her first start in more than a month to help the Bears (1-9-2, 1-5-1) limit a Dickinson outfit that ranks fourth in the conference in goals. Ultimately, Ursinus struggled to generate chances of its own, and Kyra Thomas' goal right at the 68-minute mark was enough for the Red Devils (10-3-1, 4-2-1) to strengthen their playoff chances with an important league result.

Dickinson outshot the Bears by a 13-3 count for the day, but it was senior Katie Bell who forced a save from Mary Katherine Brosnan in the early going. Kalkstein recorded three saves in the first half to keep the home side off the board.

Freshman Angela Gervasi put a shot on frame in the first minute of the second half, but Brosnan was equal to the task, and the Red Devils eventually broke through with exactly 22 minutes on the second-half clock.

Ursinus was unable to get a shot off over the remainder of the second stanza.

Dickinson owned a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks in addition to its large surplus in shots.

The Bears conclude their non-conference slate on Wednesday, October 18 against Moravian.
