Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Despite mounting a quick two-goal lead, the Ursinus College women's soccer team wasn't able to hang on and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon, the Bears' fourth consecutive one-goal loss.

Two halves of 45 minutes weren't enough to decide the contest, as the Centennial Conference matchup required an extra session. Gettysburg's Lauren Miesemer ended the game with a golden goal at the 98:11 mark on a penalty shot following an Ursinus red card for a foul in the box.

Junior Mackenzie Groff scored both goals for the Bears (0-7-1, 0-3), giving her an even ten for her career. Groff is the 22nd player in program history to reach that milestone.

The Bears got on the board quickly with a goal from Groff, who scored just 48 seconds into the matchup. Groff's classmate Kasey Sheahan assisted on the goal, sending the cross from the right into the center of the box, where Groff blasted home her second score of the season.

Groff struck again seven minutes later, but this time, did all the work herself. She took the ball up the center and sent in a shot from about 20 yards out that floated just over the Bullets keeper's head and into the back of the net.

The Gettysburg defense buckled down following the second score, as the Bears weren't able to get off another shot before halftime. In fact, the lockdown continued throughout the rest of the game, as the Bears were only able to manufacture six shots in the entirety of the match, while Gettysburg had 18.

Prior to the end of the first frame, the Bullets cut the deficit in half on a score by Meredith Moore, who sent a volley in for the score.

Gettysburg found the equalizer 13 minutes into the second half by way of a shot from Isabel Klatt, whose shot flew just inside the right post off the fingertips of Ursinus keeper Sabrina Doherty. The freshman stopped five shots on the day.

The Bears have a lengthy break before their next match, an October 4 matchup with CC opponent Haverford at Patterson Field.
