WAYNE, Pa. – A last-second goal capped a scintillating first half for the Ursinus College women's soccer team, which used the first-period scoring spree to claim a 3-0 non-conference victory at Eastern on Wednesday in the penultimate game of the season.
Seniors Erin Farrell and Jeannie Jasinski joined junior Katie Bell in the scoring column for the Bears (6-8-1), who netted three goals in a half for the first time all year and never looked back. Bell's tally, on an assist from senior Lauren Verso, came with one second remaining before halftime.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Sullivan finished with three saves in logging her 15th career shutout, leaving her one short of the all-time school record. Farrell, who added an assist, has a point in three consecutive outings. The assist was the 10th of her career, making her the 10th player in program history to reach that milestone; Farrell also became the eighth Ursinus player to reach 40 career points.
Farrell got the Bears on the board first in the 14th minute, when she deposited a feed from sophomore Mackenzie Groff for her team-leading sixth marker of the season. The senior midfielder had a hand in the next Ursinus goal, setting up the third of the year for classmate Jeannie Jasinski in the 23rd minute.
Bell's last-second strike, her second of the season and third of her career, sent the Bears roaring into the break with a three-goal spread.
Though the Eagles held a 9-3 advantage in shots after intermission, only two were on frame and Sullivan was in place to turn away both of them. Eastern finished with a 14-12 edge in shots and took seven corners to the Bears' four, but nine of Ursinus' dozen shots were on goal.
Farrell led the Bears with five shots, while Emily Cole attempted seven for the Eagles.
The women's soccer team concludes the regular season on Saturday at Muhlenberg.
