Women's Soccer scores key, 3-2 win over Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Three first half goals were more than enough as the Ursinus College women's soccer team defeated Haverford 3-2 Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears (9-2, 4-1 Centennial) stayed one game behind McDaniel for first place in the conference with the win.

Junior midfielder Jeannie Jasinski (Hilltown, Pa./Pennridge) had two goals in both the ninth and 13th minutes for the Bears, with sophomore midfielder Kendall Couch (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) scoring what would turn out to be the game-winner in the 38th minute.

Jasinski scored at 8:54 when she shot the ball from the top of the 18 and it went just under the crossbar for the early lead. She would score another goal, her eighth of the season, at 12:30 on an assist from freshman forward Mackenzie Groff (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) for a 2-0 lead.

Haverford (7-2-1, 0-2-1 Centennial) cut the lead to 2-1 when Jo Haller scored unassisted at 32:13 after a foul.

Couch's goal, on a cross from senior defender Paige Abronski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace), gave the Bears a 3-1 lead at 37:19.

Haverford would add one more at 55:33 when Raina Fitzpatrick scored on an assist from Kristen Fiore.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Sullivan (Maple Glen, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) made three saves for the Bears, who head to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
