Three Bears Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MANHEIM, Pa. - Three members of Ursinus College wrestling team garnered NWCA Scholar All-America honors as announced by the organization recently.

 

Senior Gary Nagle, sophomore Dante Monaco, and freshman Franco Mazza were the three Bears to garner Scholar All-America accolades.

 

This is the first time that all three of received Scholar All-American honors from the NWCA.

 

To achieve the honor, wrestlers must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher for the previous academic year, or own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2. Student-athletes also must either be NCAA qualifiers with a winning record, finish in the top six at the NCAA regional, or win at least 67% of their matches while wrestling in at least 50% of his team's scheduled competitions.

 

 

Nagle had a standout season on the mat for the Bears as he tallied a 27-8 overall record and had 11 wins come by pinfall. He won the 184 weight class at Centennial Championships and finished his season with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regionals. In the classroom, Nagle boasts a 3.60 GPA as an applied economics major.

 

 

Monaco had a strong collegiate debut season by posting an overall record of 17-12 with seven wins coming by pinfall and placed seventh at the Mideast Regionals. An applied economics major as well, Monaco earned a 3.24 term GPA in the previous academic year.

 

 

Mazza made an instant impact in his first season on the team by tallying a 17-14 overall record for the Bears and earning four wins by pinfall. He owns a 3.33 GPA in the classroom.
