Bears Pin Gothic Knights 26-12

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The Ursinus College wrestling team took to the mat on Saturday evening defeating New Jersey City University 26-12. 

This is the Bears' first dual meet since February 2020 when they defeated Alvernia 34-12. Shawn Marchesano got the Bears off to a quick start with a first period pin over Abdul Ibraheem. The Gothic Knights picked up decisions at 165 and 174lbs to even the score to 6-6. 

Gary Nagle had a dominant performance at 184 pounds, he had three takedowns in the match and two plus minutes in riding time winning by major decision 12-4, to make the team score 10-6.  

After New Jersey City won a close decision at 197, Gavin Range collected six team points with a pin at Heavyweight to make the score 16-9. In the second period, Range quickly turned over his opponent with an arm bar to get the fall for the Bears. Freshman Franco Mazza carried the momentum into the 125lb bout, collecting a decision by the score of 9-3. Mazza dominated the first period gathering three takedowns and a near fall to push the score to 19-9.  

Wesley Tosto iced the match at 141lbs winning decisively over Merola 13-1. Dante Monaco added a decision to close out the match, winning 10-5.  

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday as they will host Alvernia for Youth Night inside Helfferich Hall.
