COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College wrestling team hosted the annual Racich Rumble Invitational on Saturday, scoring 101 team points resulting in a 7th place finish.
Gary Nagle had an impressive showing, placing second at 184 pounds for the Bears. Nagle opened the tournament with a 6-3 decision over Hunter Beaudet of Elizabethtown before pinning his next opponent to reach the quarterfinals. After a 3-2 victory in the quarters, Nagle carried the momentum into the semifinals knocking off Mauro Pellot of Alvernia 8-6. In the finals, Nagle fell 4-3 in double overtime to capture second place for the Bears.
Shawn Marchesano had one of the most impressive matches in the tournament, in the quarterfinals trailing by 8 points, Marchesano scored nine points in the last minute to win 15-14. After falling in the semifinals, Marchesano was able to finish 4th for the Bears.
The Bears had a few injuries which resulted in a handful of medical defaults after the semifinal matches. Terry Adams (125) recorded a 5th place finish as Romeo Rodriguez (133) and Malcolm Hunt (285) placed 6th for the Bears. Hunt started off his day knocking off Henri Behaeghel from Johns Hopkins with a pin late into the first period. Behaeghel was the 2 seed and was currently ranked 3rd in the Mideast Region.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they travel to New Jersey City for a dual meet match.
