Adams Claims CC Crown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Terry Adams added another signature moment to his remarkable rookie season, capturing the 125-pound title at the Centennial Conference championships.

Adams was one of five place-winners for the Bears, who finished in fourth place with 60.5 team points in a tight tournament. Washington and Lee captured the team crown with 75.5 points, with Muhlenberg (69.5) in second and Merchant Marine (64.5) in third.

"The team competed well even though we didn't achieve our goal," said head coach Joe Jamison. "Our performance was much improved from last year and most of our team is coming back. Eight out of 10 guys wrestled at or above their seeds, so overall it was good day."

Adams became the second consecutive Ursinus freshman to grab gold at 125 pounds, and hardly had to break a sweat to do it. The rookie advanced all the way to the final thanks to back-to-back forfeits and handled McDaniel's Nick Malinowski, 13-5, when he got there.

Though Adams was the Bears' lone champion, three others reached the finals of their respective weight classes: Alfred Corradetti at 149, Jason Carter at 197, and Ben Maack at heavyweight.

Corradetti opened with a 6-2 defeat of W&L's Alex Winant, then pinned second-seeded Steve Shields of Merchant Marine in the first period to gain the title bout. Corradetti was pinned by Muhlenberg's Austin Sherman late in the second period.

Added Jamison, "The coaching staff is incredibly proud of how Freddy Corradetti wrestled today. He saw an opportunity and seized it. Freddy has a very good chance to get to NCAA's if he wrestles at regionals like he did today."

Carter pinned Gettysburg's Jon Stix midway through the second period and followed with a 12-2 major over Merchant Marine's Andrew French. He dropped an 8-3 decision to top-seeded Luca Colestock of Muhlenberg in the final.

Maack pulled out a 5-4 thriller over W&L's Clay Chadwick in the semifinals before conceding a 7-4 decision to Muhlenberg's Scott Schaeffer in the championship match.

Ray Calderaio earned third place at 133, pinning Gettysburg's Jake Stein in the first round. After losing to W&L's Chad Cunningham in the semifinals, he pinned McDaniel's Steve Pabon in 1:25 and scored a 7-2 decision in a rematch with Stein in the consolation final.

Jake Folk nearly made the final at 157, falling just shy in a 2-1 decision to McDaniel's Alex LeVeck in the semifinals. Jason Zollers (165) and Kyle Schaffer (184) each won a consolation bout.
