LANCASTER, Pa. – Eight different Ursinus College wrestlers picked up bout victories as the Bears put forth an impressive showing at Franklin & Marshall's David H. Lehman Open on Saturday.

Jason Carter and Malcolm Hunt each reached the quarterfinals at 197 while Gary Nagle was a two-match winner at 174 pounds for Ursinus, the only Division III program in a stacked field featuring grapplers from the Big Ten, Ivy League, and more.

Nagle reached the round-of-16 with a 17-0 rout of Long Island's Thomas DiGennaro in his opening match. After a hard-fought decision went the other way, the sophomore picked up a 10-2 major decision against an opponent from the Naval Academy.

Hunt pinned Mark Malico of Long Island in the first period of their 197-pound matchup. Carter joined him in the quarterfinals with back-to-back decisions over Sacred Heart's Jacob Harrison (6-1) and Navy's Michael Smith (6-3).

Terry Adams edged Sacred Heart's Sean Faraon, 6-3, in the first round at 125 pounds, and fellow rookie Romeo Rodriguez also notched a victory in the smallest weight class, pinning Long Island's Brendon Mercado in the consolations.

Another freshman, Shawn Marchesano, logged a pin at the prestigious event, dropping Sacred Heart's Richard Aldarondo in just 90 seconds at 149 pounds.

Ben Maack advanced to the third round of the consolation bracket in the heavyweight tournament. After losing a tight 4-0 decision to a wrestler from Columbia, Maack scored a 13-1 major decision over Campbell's Calvin Hayford and moved on to the third round via medical forfeit.

"The team competed well today," head coach Joe Jamison said. "We were the only Division III team at the tournament, which speaks volumes about the jumps we've made and where we are as a program. We had some really good wins today over wrestlers from tough Division I programs. We turned a lot of heads, and when the postseason comes, we'll be prepared."

The Bears host the annual North-South Duals next Saturday in the Floy Lewis Bakes Center fieldhouse.
