Wrestling Hauls in NWCA Academic Honors

LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Nine members of the Ursinus College wrestling team have been named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, which revealed its academic awards at this weekend's NCAA Division III Championship.

Seniors Derek Arnold, Victor Fernandez, Alexander Kramer, and Matan Peleg; junior Christopher Tan; sophomores Robert Endy and Zach Goranson; and freshmen Thomas Boldosser and James Harnkess all garnered Scholar All-America honors, which requires a 3.20 cumulative GPA and a high level of success on the mat.

Additionally, Ursinus finished 15th in the NWCA Scholar-Team standings with a team GPA of 3.23. The Bears trailed only Johns Hopkins and Stevens among Centennial Conference programs.

Arnold turned in a sensational end to his standout career with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, matching his own mark for best national placing in school history and capturing his second All-America laurel. An applied economics major, Arnold finished the season with a record of 32-3 and picked up his third conference and NCAA East Regional crowns along the way.  

An environmental science major, Fernandez was 12-6 this season, with most of his matches coming at 165 pounds.

Kramer, a biology major and Scholar All-American for the fourth time, won three individual tournament on the way to a 41-7 record. That run of success included his first CC championship at 149 pounds and a fourth-place showing at the regional tournament.

A mathematics major, Peleg went 33-8 and placed fifth in the heavyweight division at the regional championship. Peleg is a two-time NCAA qualifier and a Scholar All-American for the third time.

Tan won the 125-pound CC crown and took fifth at regionals, finishing 23-5 overall in another outstanding campaign. An applied economics major, he is a repeat Scholar All-American honoree.

Endy, a mathematics major, was 15-7 at 157 this season. Also a mathematics major, Goranson went 18-7 at 165 and placed runner-up at the Will Abele Invitational.

Boldosser, who has not yet declared a major, finished 18-9 at 141 pounds. Harkness, a biology major, was 18-8 at 133 and placed second at the Messiah Invitational.

The wrestling team notched a dual record of 18-3, finished runner-up at the Centennial Conference Championship, and placed sixth at the NCAA East Regional.
