Wrestling Sweeps Quad Match on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team put a bow on the regular season with three dominating victories on Saturday afternoon, sending its six-man senior class out on a high note in the final home matches of their careers.

The Bears started with a 53-5 win over Penn State Mont Alto, followed with a 47-3 result against Penn College, and finished the day with a 59-0 blanking of Williamson. Seniors Derek Arnold, Alexander Kramer, and Robert Rein combined for four pins in four combined bouts.

Freshman Max Liggett started the proceedings with a 17-1 technical fall at 125 against Penn State Mont Alto, and classmate Thomas Boldosser picked up a pin on Brandon Jackson at 141. Arnold followed with a second-period fall against Grant Shughart at 157, and sophomore Jarret DiGiantomasso took down Kraig Freeman in a mere 48 seconds at 165.

The Nittany Lions won the 174-pound match by decision, and forfeited the final three weight classes.

Junior Christopher Tan stepped back into his customary position at 125 for the Penn College match, notching a 16-0 technical fall against Ben Doll. Boldosser collected an 8-5 decision over Zach Fitzsimmons, and Kramer needed a mere 15 seconds to pin Joe Swank at 149.

At 184, Rein pinned Andrew Hurd late in the first period, and sophomore Zebulin Pfeiffer pinned Malcolm Kane in 1:14 at 197. Senior Matan Peleg completed the match with a 2-0 victory over Dylan Otis in the heavyweight clash.

Only three bouts were contested against Williamson. Arnold needed just 29 seconds to pin Andy Schlegel at 157, and freshman Ryan Kidwell picked up a pin against Joe Koke at heavyweight. Senior Corey Markovitch routed Jon Carnes, 18-0, at 174.

The wrestling team has less than a week to prepare for the NCAA East Regional Championship, which gets underway Friday at Ferrum College in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
